Activity Leaders are responsible for the planning, promoting and leading interesting and fun activities, working alongside Teacher/Activity Leaders, and the Activity Manager, who oversees the programme.
Senior Positions
Senior Activity Leader (SAL)
The Senior Activity Leader role is to assisting the AM in managing specific activities and supporting less-experienced members of staff. This position would suit someone with proven abilities as an AL. Tour Guide/Senior Activity Leader(selected centres only) The Tour Guide/Senior Activity Leader is responsible for researching, organising and promoting tours of various locations near the selected centres. A knowledge of the areas would be an advantage, though it's more important that you are bale to manage your own time and have previous experience of organising activity programmes.
The Activity Programme
The role you play in an activity will vary from day to day, but it could be leading an excursion, taking students swimming, designing a quiz, or running an arts & crafts session.
Working on the activity programme requires energy, enthusiasm and commitment, and the more you put into the programme, the more you will get out of it. Remember that the activity programme has a direct effect on the students' enjoyment of their holiday, so that more that you put into the programme, the more they get out of it.
Programme Types
The type of study programmes offered at the
centre affects the types of work offered.
We offer several types of programmes:
Classic Programme
This is the traditional summer school programme, where students have
classes in the morning and activities in the afternoon. They also have one or
two
half-day excursions and one full day excursion per week. This programme
represents the majority of courses sold.
Double Banked Programmes (AKA Zig-Zag)
It is sometimes necessary to run classes in the morning and the afternoon.
In double-banking, if a group has classes in the morning one week, the
next they will have them in the afternoon. This means that the same
activities will run both morning and afternoon.
Closed Groups
Sometimes the programme is designed specially for the group. Some government
contract groups operate as a closed group e.g. INPDAP courses at selected
centres.
Homestay Programmes
Homestay students generally follow the Classic programme, except that
they live with selected host families off-site. Homestay students only
come in for evening activities twice per week (usually for discos)
