How to obtain the certificate and where

Residents should apply to the Ministry of the Interior (Belügyminisztérium).

A 'Police penal certificate request form' (Hátósagi Erkölcsi Bizonyítvány Kérolap) can be obtained from any post office.
Non-residents can apply to the Hungarian foreign mission or authorise a family member to apply on their behalf. Application forms can be posted by registered mail to
Belügyminisztérium, PO Box 1943, Budapest or can be completed at the foreign mission for forwarding on to the appropriate authorities.

 

Documents needed

ID number, full names (current and previous), date and place of birth, mother's maiden name, permanent address.
